Following an impressive 2023-2024 regular season in which the Bergen Bulldogs volleyball team reached the playoffs and finished with a 15-6 overall record, the bar was set high for the 2024-2025 season—and your Bulldogs did not disappoint. After a second-game loss of 3-1 to Lehigh Carbon CC, the Bulldogs went on to win 17(!) games in a row, dropping only a single set during that streak and finishing with an 18-1 record.
Looking back on their season as a whole, the best way to describe their level of play was complete dominance. Bergen comfortably handled their opponents game after game, losing only one set during their 17-game winning streak. Every other opponent was defeated 3-0. A big part of Bergen’s successful regular season was the performance of freshman and sophomore outside hitters Angelina Buhler and Gyanna Hernandez. Buhler led the team in total kills with 160 and kills per set with 2.76. Hernandez contributed 133 total kills and 2.29 kills per set. These contributions helped lift Bergen to 26th in the national rankings for kills per set, with 9.65. Thanks to the roles Hernandez and Buhler played during the regular season, Bergen also ranked 18th in points per set. Hernandez led the team with 200.5 total points, and Buhler was close behind with 189.5. Buhler was also a defensive threat, keeping rallies alive with her team-leading 240 total digs and 4.14 digs per set, helping Bergen rank just inside the top 25.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were on fire, thanks in large part to their ranking of 24th in assists per set (8.92). One of the most valued skills in sports is how effectively players set up their teammates for success. Two Bulldogs excelled in this area: Angela Korca led the team with 261 total assists and 4.42 assists per set, while Ariana Garo contributed 181 total assists and 3.07 assists per set.
The Bulldogs’ monster run came to a halt with their first loss in nearly two months, falling to Harrisburg Area Community College in the Region 19 Tournament. Bergen’s final overall record for the 2024-2025 season stands at 18-2. While the season didn’t end as they had hoped, our Bulldogs delivered an entertaining and eventful season, leaving fans hungry for more.
