Mauro J. Marzocco (July 21, 1939), one of the founders of Bergen Community College and Senior Full Professor of Mathematics, passed away on April 12, 2023, at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife retired Professor Joann Theresa (Garbarino), and their two children.  Characterized by both his colleagues and students as a kind man of character and a dedicated, compassionate, and committed teacher, his impact on generations of Bergen students will not be soon forgotten. “Prof. Marzocco made the classroom brighter with his insight, experience, knowledge, and as Idina Menzel would say, because I knew him, I was changed for good,”said Gloria Cevallos from the BCC Events Planning Department. In his service to the school Prof. Marzocco, a devout Christian, also served as Academic Dean for ten years during the 1990’s. He will forever be a part of BCC.
