Broke Folks Guide to Summer Vacation

Ashley Diaz, Social Media Editor

(The following list is in correlation to COVID-19 not being a danger in our society and quarantine being lifted during the summer.)

After a long and usually grueling school year, summer always arrives with a breeze of freedom. With extra time on your hands, there are endless opportunities at your doorstep waiting for you.

A break from school can either mean more shifts at work, staying home and relaxing, or enjoying your vacation.

If you are looking for cheap things to do while you’re on break, here’s a list.

You can have a beach day with your friends or family. All you need to do is pack your bathing suit, sunscreen and snacks. If you don’t want to spend money on gas you can always take public transportation to get there.

As silly as it may sound, you and some friends can take a trip to the grocery store. Here you can buy ingredients to make a meal and face masks. This is a recipe for a perfect way to have a night in with your friends.

There are many concerts going on during the warmer weather. We are lucky enough to live in a place where it’s easy to get to New York, Prudential Center or Metlife Stadium. These are really popular places for artists to come and perform. Also, there are many local shows during the summer where you could see upcoming artists at a cheap price.

Barbeques are a common occurrence during summer break. You can easily go to a family or a friend’s barbeque, especially around the 4th of July. This is an inexpensive way to get a meal while having a good time. If you have a grill at home you can host your own BBQ and ask your guests to bring their own dishes. This way it feels more like a family potluck and everyone involved does not have to spend too much money.

Another cute, cheap idea is to go strawberry picking. Lucky for us there are plenty of farms around New Jersey that have harvesting opened for the public for an affordable price.

If you’re all out of ideas, you can always take a walk around your town. This is an easy way to not feel cooped up in the house and enjoy nice weather for a chill day outdoors.

The most important thing to do during the summer is to make memories. It does not matter if it’s a movie marathon, a sleepover, a concert or a trip to the Bahamas. As long as you make these memories with the people that you love, you will have an amazing summer break.
